2026 is the first men's World Cup with 48 teams and 12 groups of four. 104 total matches (up from 64 in 2022). The top two from each group plus the eight best third-placed teams advance to a newly added Round of 32, which feeds into the Round of 16 → Quarter-finals → Semi-finals → Final.
