But as of early September, no date, opponent or venue has actually been confirmed. Messi himself hasn’t committed to an end point, describing his approach as day-to-day — so the closest thing to certainty here is that Argentina wants this window to hold the occasion, not that it will.

What’s Klopp vs Xavi about again?

The one genuinely nailed-down date on this list. Jürgen Klopp’s first match as Germany head coach and Xavi Hernández’s first as Netherlands head coach is the same fixture — Germany away to the Netherlands in Amsterdam on September 24, in the UEFA Nations League. Two managers hired after their predecessors left following Round of 32 World Cup exits, both making their competitive debuts in the same 90 minutes, with neither having named a squad as of late August.

How is Argentina serving its FIFA bans?

Also still unresolved, though the mechanism is now settled. FIFA ruled in August that Leandro Paredes, Nahuel Molina and two teammates would serve suspensions stemming from the World Cup final’s aftermath, and approved a late-August request from the AFA to let those bans be served in Class A friendlies rather than only competitive fixtures.
